A GREAT FIRST YEAR FOR CYGNUS TRUST
Cygnus Trust celebrates first birthday with cheque presentation at the House of Commons
The Cygnus Trust celebrated its first birthday in November with a cheque presentation at the House of Commons, hosted by John Cryer, MP for Leyton and Wanstead.
Attending the birthday celebrations were Trustees and Members of Cygnus along with representatives of the five beneficiary organisations. John Cryer MP and Shah Ahmed presented cheques to:
- Carefree Kids (Children's Charity based in Waltham Forest, providing emotional support to children, teenagers and their parents and carers) - represented by: Colin Bilton, Melinda Briggs, Christel Hawkins
- Friends of Redbridge Music School (developing education, social skills and confidence in the young through music) - represented by George Gannon
- SLADA (South Leytonstone Area Development Association) (creating training and employment opportunities in areas of economic deprivation) - represented by Mark Bonham and Andrew Hulbert
- Aldersbrook Baptist Church lunch club for the elderly (provision of lunches and social interaction for the elderly) - cheque received on behalf of Pastor Peter
- St Gabriel's Church (provision of summer play scheme for children themed on the Olympics) - represented by the Rev Martyn Hawkes and Kevin Thomas
Cygnus raises money through fundraising events throughout the year and through membership. The first year's fundraising was extremely successful for the Trust with a busy programme of fashion shows, quiz evenings, wine tastings and many raffles! The Trust would be delighted to hear from any potential new members or from anyone with a fundraising idea.
